Scanning Documents
InSched includes a multi-page scanning dialog for digitizing paper documents directly into a patient's chart using a TWAIN-compatible scanner.
Opening the Scanner
From the EMR Viewer, click Scan Document or press F4 to open the Multi Page Scan dialog.
Scanner Selection
Select your scanner from the Scanner dropdown at the top of the dialog. The list shows all TWAIN-compatible scanners detected on the workstation. If a scanner was connected after the dialog opened, click Reload Scanners.
One-Click Preset Scan Buttons
The scan dialog provides up to eight preset acquire buttons, each labeled with the configuration it will use (for example, "RGB 200 Simplex" or "Text 300 Duplex"). Click a preset button to scan immediately with those settings — no need to configure the scanner before each scan. Presets are stored per scanner, so the buttons update when you change scanners.
- Acquire by Dialog — scan using the scanner's own settings dialog instead of a preset.
- Customize Scan Buttons — opens the Scanner Configuration dialog, an overview of the eight preset slots for the current scanner.
To edit a preset, open it from Scanner Configuration. The Edit Individual Config dialog lets you set:
- Config Name — the label shown on the button
- Individual Configuration or Dialog Configuration — fixed settings, or the scanner's own dialog (use Set Configuration By Dialog to capture settings from the scanner's dialog)
- Pixel Type, Resolution, and Bit Depth
- Duplex (scan both sides of the paper)
- Show Acquire Button for this Configuration — uncheck to hide unused preset slots
Set up presets once for your common jobs — color photos, black-and-white text, double-sided forms — and scanning becomes a single click.
Scanner Options
TWAIN Settings
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Scanner Dialog Visible | Show the scanner's own configuration dialog during scanning |
| Scanner Progress Bar Visible | Display a progress bar during the scan |
| Real Time Image Display | Show images as they are being scanned |
| Buffered Transfer | Use buffered data transfer (may improve performance) |
| Double Sided | Enable duplex scanning (if supported by the scanner) |
| Discard Blank Pages | Automatically skip blank pages during scanning |
Image Quality
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| DPI-X | Horizontal resolution in dots per inch (default: 100) |
| DPI-Y | Vertical resolution in dots per inch (default: 100) |
| Colors | Color depth (color, grayscale, black and white) |
Higher DPI values produce sharper images but result in larger file sizes. For most documents, 150–200 DPI provides a good balance.
Acquire Frame
Check Show Acquire Frame to reveal frame settings. When Frame Enable is checked, you can define a specific scanning area in inches:
- Top — Distance from the top edge

This is useful for scanning only a portion of a page.
